Healthy Back-to-School Lunch Options: Ham, Cheese, Red Onion + Pickle Wrap
Welcome to Week 4 of healthy schools lunches with Flatout Bread and Savor the Thyme.
This week I am getting creative with a lunch staple: sliced deli ham. Seeing that my kids love deli meat, we do our best to buy no nitrate/nitrite added meats (Stop & Shop carries a Nature’s Promise line as well as Trader Joe’s).
The sandwich that I am presenting to you today is one that my husband created about a year ago and the kids loved. The reason it also sticks out in my mind is that my son was at his peak of picky eating and I could not believe that he just started eating daddy’s sandwich without examining the contents first.
Here, I present:
Ham, Cheese, Red Onion & Pickle Sandwich
- 1 multigrain Flatout Wrap
- 2 slices deli ham
- 1 slice of cheddar cheese or cheese or choice
- 3-4 slices of red onion
- 1 sandwich pickle
Directions:
Place ham onto the wrap closest to one end of the wrap, top with cheese, onion and pickle. Roll the wrap, cut in half and place into container.

Pair with carrots and hummus, almonds, apple sauce and a container of water.
I hope you have found the lunch ideas useful. There are plenty more great recipes and tips at Savor the Thyme.
