Healthy Holiday Entertaining: Snow Day Fun
This week’s healthy holiday focus is on decorating and entertaining, whether for family or friends, adults or kids, a big group of people or just yourself! Here to share her snow-filled tips is Laura Sampson from Hey What’s For Dinner Mom? Enjoy!
The recipe calls for: Flatout HungryGirl Foldit Sliders in Classic White
There’s a simple way to have winter fun with kids and get a little decorating done, too: have a snowflake making party! Spend an hour clipping snowflakes, then spend some time making snowmen you can eat. Simple, fun and delicious! Your kids will appreciate the freedom to make any kind of snowflake they can think of — even making them wrong is OK as long as you have fun and a little tape to fix them up. Flatout HungryGirl Foldit Sliders make the perfect snowman snacks. Just toast them in advance, add some cheesy snow and off you go.
DIY Snowflakes
- Assorted paper: dot matrix, origami, aluminum foil, parchment
- Scissors
- Scotch tape (if necessary)
- Branch and/or stick
Directions:
Fold paper into various shapes depending on type of snowflake you want to make (some ideas here). Using scissors, cut out your design, then unfold paper to reveal snowflake. Use tape if necessary to fix them up. Otherwise, hang them on a branch or stick for a beautiful addition to any room.
Snowmen Flatbread
- Flatout HungryGirl Foldit Sliders in Classic White
- Snow Spread (recipe below)
- Assorted spreaders for kids to use
- Assorted toppings: roasted red peppers, olives, capers, kalamata olives, pickles, celery slices, carrots, orange peppers, zucchini slices
Directions:
Toast sliders for 15 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Cool before using. Using kid-friendly spreaders, top sliders with a layer of snow spread. Sprinkle assorted toppings in whatever design you choose to create your very own miniature, edible snowman!
Snow Spread
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- 4 ounces reduced fat cream cheese
- 2 TBSP milk
- 4 ounces feta crumbles
Directions:
Combine the two cream cheeses in a mixer set to high. Once combined, add the milk and feta and beat until well combined. Make sure you beat it really well so it’s light and fluffy for easy spreading!
